ISLAMABAD; The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a comprehensive business plan and a report on salary payments in connection with the case concerning the possible closure of Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company (SRBC). The court adjourned further proceedings until the required submissions are made.
During the hearing held on Friday, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar appeared before the court and urged that the company not be shut down. He assured the bench that the government is actively preparing a business plan to revive SRBC and will soon present it in court.
The minister emphasized that the closure of the company would put the jobs of many employees at risk. Representing the employees, advocates Ali Nawaz Kharal, Saad Khan, and others also appeared and supported the call for reactivation of the company.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, presiding over the case, directed that a solid and practical revival plan be submitted. The court also appointed an accountant to examine and evaluate the upcoming business plan.
Attaullah Tarar further informed the court that 70 percent of SRBC shares are held by Pakistan Television (PTV), and funds have already been transferred which could be used to pay at least two months of employees’ salaries.
The court instructed the government to file a detailed report regarding the payment of salaries and the progress on the business plan before the next hearing and subsequently adjourned the proceedings.
