Karachi Court Ends Defence Assault Case After Victim Backs Out

KARACHI; The City Court Karachi has officially closed the high-profile Defence torture case after the victim chose not to pursue further legal action.

The case, which revolved around an incident of violence against a citizen in the upscale Defence area of Karachi, was taken up during a hearing where the police submitted their final report.

In their submission, the police requested the court to abolish the case, classifying it under the C Class category, which pertains to cases closed due to lack of prosecution or interest from the complainant.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as Dheeraj, stated that the case was registered due to a misunderstanding and that he no longer wished to continue with the proceedings.

The report highlighted Dheeraj’s explicit desire to drop the charges, prompting the court to accept the police findings and formally wrap up the case.

This case traces back to a widely condemned incident that occurred after a collision between a motorcycle and a car in Defence.

Following the minor accident, an influential individual named Suleman, who was driving the car, violently assaulted the motorcyclist Dheeraj. The motorcyclist’s sister, who was also on the motorcycle, pleaded with Suleman to stop, but he showed no remorse.

The episode drew massive public outrage after a video capturing the assault went viral on social media, sparking debates on privilege, misuse of power, and lack of accountability.

While many had hoped for strict legal action to set an example against such abuses, the victim’s decision to withdraw effectively ended the proceedings. The court, aligning with the police report and the victim’s wishes, officially terminated the case, bringing the matter to a close.
