Fawad Chaudhry Urges CJP to Fix Hearing, Cites Delay Despite SC Orders

Islamabad: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, accompanied by his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, appeared before Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi to raise concerns over the non-fixation of their case for hearing.

Fawad Chaudhry argued that despite the Supreme Court’s earlier orders, their case had yet to be scheduled, expressing frustration over the delay. Advocate Faisal Chaudhry added that since a larger bench was available, the matter should have been promptly fixed for hearing.

Fawad Chaudhry also pointed out that cases related to the events of May 9 were being heard daily following directives from the Supreme Court, implying a disparity in prioritization.

In response, CJP Yahya Afridi stressed that there should be no injustice in enforcing the directive to conclude cases within four months.

He clarified that while one case would proceed in the Anti-Terrorism Court on a given day, it was not appropriate for hearings of multiple related cases to occur simultaneously in different courts, which could compromise due process.

The Chief Justice assured them that the registrar’s office would inform them about the scheduling of their case, indicating that procedural requirements were being followed to ensure fair and timely hearings.
