Lahore: In a remarkable demonstration of public service, effective governance, and security preparedness, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a new standard by overseeing the most comprehensive Muharram arrangements ever implemented in the province.

Under her direct supervision, a series of innovative and far-reaching measures were introduced this year. For the first time in Punjab’s history, water was sprinkled along the routes of Muharram processions to reduce the impact of scorching heat, while immediate cleaning operations followed the processions to maintain hygiene and facilitate mourners.

As the second day of Muharram unfolded, these exceptional initiatives continued seamlessly across Punjab. The province witnessed exemplary arrangements that ensured peace, cleanliness, and dedicated facilitation for the public and mourners participating in the religious observances.

A historic milestone was achieved with the introduction of advanced cyber patrolling, forming a key component of Punjab’s largest-ever Muharram security operation. This strategy aimed to curb the spread of misinformation and maintain communal harmony during the sensitive days of mourning.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took personal charge of supervising these extensive arrangements. Over 108,000 police personnel, backed by Rangers, were deployed across Punjab to secure processions and majalis. Administrative bodies, police, rescue teams, health departments, and sanitation workers operated cohesively as a unified force, while members of peace committees actively contributed to managing processions and gatherings.

Cyber patrolling teams worked diligently to counter fake news on social media platforms, ensuring misinformation did not disrupt peace. Meanwhile, fully functional 24/7 control rooms were established at the provincial, divisional, and district levels to continuously monitor the situation and coordinate swift responses wherever needed.

To further ease the journey for mourners, the provincial administration, on the Chief Minister’s instructions, arranged shaded areas along procession routes and ensured the availability of drinking water and food. Medical preparedness remained at its peak, with field hospitals, mobile clinics, and complete medical teams on standby. Refreshment stalls serving sherbet and lemonade were set up, while cold water bottles were distributed to keep participants hydrated.

Security measures were bolstered through round-the-clock surveillance using Safe City cameras, special security gates at key entry and exit points, and drone monitoring, all of which ensured a secure environment for mourners.

In line with the “Clean Punjab” campaign, special cleanliness drives were launched to keep the procession routes and congregation areas tidy. Water was also sprinkled along the paths to help minimize the discomfort caused by heat and humidity. All potential hazards, such as dangling electrical wires, were promptly removed to guarantee safe passage for the mourners.

These groundbreaking steps under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif not only set a new record for Muharram arrangements in Punjab but also exemplified a model of governance centered on public welfare, safety, and interfaith harmony.
