Washington D.C: The public feud between former allies Donald Trump and Elon Musk has erupted once again, with the two prominent figures trading barbs on social media over a controversial new tax-cut and spending bill.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, criticized President Trump’s sweeping legislation, labeling it “utterly insane and destructive.” After weeks of relative silence on political matters, Musk rejoined the debate on X (formerly Twitter), vowing to oppose lawmakers who supported the bill despite having campaigned on reducing government spending. He warned that the bill, which includes proposed cuts to electric vehicle (EV) and clean energy tax credits, would be “deeply harmful” and “destroy millions of jobs in America.” Musk went so far as to call the bill “political suicide” for the Republican Party, stating that lawmakers who backed it “should hang their heads in shame” and predicting they would lose their primary elections next year. He also suggested forming a new political party if the bill passed, branding the GOP as “the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” for its massive spending.

In a swift and pointed response on his Truth Social platform, President Trump lashed out at Musk. He claimed that the billionaire “may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far,” and without those federal subsidies, Musk “would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.” Trump further suggested that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk once led, should investigate the subsidies received by Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, to save the country a “FORTUNE.”
