Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the immediate activation of District Emergency Operation Centres (DEOCs) throughout the province to ensure the comprehensive implementation of the Punjab Monsoon Emergency Plan 2025.

The emergency plan has now been formally launched across all districts. The Chief Minister is receiving continuous updates on the progress and has instructed that DEOCs operate 24 hours a day to monitor and address any monsoon-related incidents. Simultaneously, large-scale cleaning of stormwater drains and removal of blockages in water channels is underway to minimize flooding risks.

As part of the province’s preparedness measures, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has activated its helpline 1129 to facilitate prompt assistance for citizens in case of emergencies. The PDMA has also released Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) outlining precautions to prevent accidents and loss of life during the rainy season.

Among the key guidelines, swimming in canals has been strictly prohibited, particularly when water levels rise. Parents have been strongly urged to keep children and young people away from storm drains and inundated areas. Authorities have also been tasked with surveying structurally unsafe buildings and advising residents to move to safer accommodations where necessary.

Residents have been advised to exercise caution by avoiding contact with electrical equipment, fallen power lines, and poles during rainfall. Additionally, citizens should clear their rooftops, ensure proper drainage systems are functioning, and remain indoors during lightning or severe storms. In the event of potential urban flooding, people are encouraged to relocate to secure areas in advance.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called on Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Rescue 1122 teams, and all relevant departments to stay vigilant and maintain a high level of readiness throughout the monsoon season. She appealed to the public to follow safety protocols diligently, emphasizing that protecting human life is the government’s highest priority.

“All available resources will be utilized to safeguard our citizens, and we will fulfill this duty with complete commitment,” she affirmed.
