Tehran: In a significant development, Iran’s National Security Council has announced its agreement to a ceasefire with Israel, issuing a statement on the “national decision to impose the cessation of war on the Zionist enemy and its vile supporters.” This declaration follows a period of intense conflict and comes amidst mixed signals from Iranian officials regarding a truce.
Earlier today, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi stated that there was “no formal agreement on a ceasefire with Israel,” despite claims by the United States that a truce had been reached. Aragchi emphasized that Iran’s military actions were a direct response to Israeli aggression, not a war initiated by Tehran. He further clarified that if the Israeli regime ceased its “illegal aggression against the Iranian people,” Iran had “no intention to continue our response afterwards.”
The statement from the National Security Council suggests a formal adoption of this conditional cessation of hostilities, though details of the agreement and its implementation remain to be seen. The situation in the region remains highly fluid, with international efforts continuing to de-escalate the conflict.
