The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

Speaker Sadiq emphasized the importance of strengthening historical Pakistan-UK ties through enhanced parliamentary cooperation.

He stated that Pakistan is keen to further deepen its friendly relations with the United Kingdom and highlighted the pivotal role of parliamentary engagement in fostering mutual understanding.

He proudly shared that the Parliament House of Pakistan holds the distinction of being the world’s first “Green Parliament,” having shifted to solar energy in 2015.

He also noted that more than 60,000 young people expressed interest in the Parliamentary Internship Programme, and this June, 200 students were selected for the Summer Internship Programme.

Emphasizing youth empowerment, the Speaker said parliamentary training is essential to familiarize young citizens with the democratic process.

To ensure transparency, over 1,400 National Assembly employees were personally interviewed. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of training staff in AI and ICT for improved governance.

To raise the quality of legislation, legislative and technical staff are being recruited on merit through the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), and private members’ bills are reviewed by relevant committees before being presented in the House.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan-UK relations through parliamentary collaboration.

She appreciated the reforms aimed at increasing youth participation and praised Pakistan’s initiatives in green energy.

Marriott stressed the value of sharing legislative expertise between both parliaments to improve the quality of lawmaking.

She added that the UK will continue to support Pakistan in education, climate change, and social development sectors. (Courtesy PTV World)
