DUBAI; The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, following a year-long review and consultations with stakeholders.
In its recent meeting, the ICC Board said the decision was based on repeated breaches of the ICC Constitution by USA Cricket. These violations included the failure to establish a proper governance system, slow progress in gaining recognition from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and actions that damaged the reputation of cricket both domestically and internationally.
Calling the move “unfortunate but necessary,” the ICC stressed that the suspension was aimed at safeguarding the long-term interests of the sport.
Despite the suspension, USA’s national teams will remain eligible to compete in ICC tournaments, including preparations for cricket’s return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. To ensure smooth functioning, the ICC and its appointed representatives will temporarily oversee the management of USA’s national teams. The arrangement seeks to protect athletes, maintain momentum for Olympic participation, and sustain the High-Performance and Player Development Program.
A Normalisation Committee, supported by ICC management, will define the roadmap for USA Cricket’s reinstatement. This will involve clear improvements in governance, operations, and organisational functioning. Progress will be monitored closely, with guidance provided throughout the process.
The ICC underlined its commitment to expanding cricket in the United States, while ensuring that athletes and the wider cricket community are not adversely affected.
USA Cricket had already been warned at the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting and given 12 months to meet membership requirements. However, continued non-compliance, despite fresh assurances in July 2025, ultimately led to the suspension.
