LAHORE; A Special Central Court on Monday issued bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a money laundering case.
The case was heard by Judge Arif Khan Niazi in Lahore, where proceedings were held against Pervaiz Elahi and several co-accused. During the hearing, Elahi’s lawyer Aamir Saeed Ran appeared on his behalf and submitted an exemption application, citing reasons for his client’s absence. The court, however, rejected the plea and expressed displeasure over the former chief minister’s repeated non-appearance.
Following this, the court issued bailable arrest warrants and ordered Pervaiz Elahi to submit surety bonds worth 10,000 rupees to ensure his attendance in future hearings.
Pervaiz Elahi, a senior political figure and longtime ally of PTI founder Imran Khan, has been facing multiple cases since the political unrest of May 9 and the subsequent crackdown on PTI leadership. Known for his role as a power broker in Punjab politics, he served as chief minister before joining PTI in 2023.
Analysts note that Elahi’s continued absence from court proceedings could further complicate his legal position and add to the challenges already facing the PTI leadership.
