KARACHII; The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ruled that no police officer has the right to be posted at a specific position or police station, calling such decisions an internal administrative matter of the department.
The court dismissed a petition filed by former SHO of Steel Town, Allan Abbasi, who had challenged his transfer during a protest in which he faced allegations of violence.
During the hearing on Friday, the Assistant Advocate General said that appointments and postings are the exclusive right of the competent authorities.
The court observed that while premature transfers should have valid reasons, the record showed two show-cause notices had been issued to the petitioner, and departmental proceedings were still pending.
The SHC directed the Inspector General Sindh to appoint SHOs who are highly educated, have a good reputation, and maintain a transparent service record, adding that earlier court directives on the matter must not be ignored.
The bench reiterated that the transfer and posting of police officers are aimed at maintaining discipline within the force, and the court can only intervene if there is a violation of law.
Finding no illegality in the transfer order, the SHC dismissed the petition and ordered a copy of the decision to be sent to the IG Sindh for implementation.
