RAWALPINDI; An army major was among three security personnel martyred in a terrorist attack in Balochistan’s Mastung district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday. The attack was carried out by terrorists linked to “Fitna al-Hindustan”, an Indian-backed proxy group, according to the military’s media wing.
In its statement, ISPR said that on the night of August 5–6, a security forces’ vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED).
The martyred personnel were identified as:
- Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir (31), a resident of Narowal;
- Naik Ibni Amin (37), from Swabi;
- Lance Naik Muhammad Younas (33), from Karak.
All three embraced martyrdom while in the line of duty. ISPR paid special tribute to Major Rizwan, calling him a courageous officer who had led from the front in numerous counter-terrorism operations.
Following the attack, security forces launched a sanitisation operation in the area, resulting in the killing of four terrorists affiliated with the Indian-backed network. The operation is ongoing to clear the area of any remaining threats.
The ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces remain resolute in eliminating Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country and that the sacrifices of brave soldiers like these only strengthen national resolve.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Mastung attack and praised the security forces for their swift action in neutralising the attackers. Offering prayers for the martyred soldiers, he extended condolences to their families, stating, “Their grief is shared by the entire nation.”
He hailed the soldiers as defenders of Pakistan who stand like an unshakable wall against threats. “Their bravery will never be forgotten,” the PM said, adding that the sacrifices in this battle against terrorism are unparalleled and reaffirming the state’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack in strong terms, saying that the fallen soldiers achieved the highest honour through their sacrifice. He offered condolences to the bereaved families, describing the martyrs as shining examples of duty and patriotism.
