ISLAMABAD (Web-Desk); WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a new feature that allows users to engage in real-time voice conversations with Meta AI, making chatbot interactions more fluid and hands-free.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available to selected beta testers using the latest iOS beta version 25.21.10.76 via TestFlight. A wider release is expected over the coming weeks.
With this update, users can start a voice chat by tapping the waveform icon in the Chats tab. There’s also a voice preference setting that, if enabled, allows voice sessions to launch automatically when Meta AI is opened — although this option is turned off by default for user control.
Additionally, some users can initiate a voice session directly from the Calls tab, streamlining the process further. The updated interface offers pre-set prompts to help users who might not know what to ask, and includes the ability to attach and share images from the gallery or camera right from the text input field.
The voice chat continues even when users switch to other apps by using the “collapse” icon, enabling Meta AI to keep listening and offering responses — much like a hands-free call.
For privacy, users can mute their mic or end the session at any time. On iOS, Apple’s privacy features also come into play: an orange dot near the top-right corner indicates when the microphone is active — a system-level alert that cannot be disabled by any app, including WhatsApp.
This hands-free functionality is especially helpful for users who are multitasking, on the move, or have accessibility needs, making Meta AI even more convenient to interact with.
