RAWALPINDI; Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, has raised serious concerns over her brother’s safety and treatment in prison, alleging that his life is in danger. Addressing the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday, she announced plans to approach the Supreme Court, seeking legal recourse to protect the former prime minister’s basic rights and secure his release.

Aleema claimed that both Imran Khan and her nephew were being held in what she described as “unlawful detention.” She emphasized that her foremost priority was to ensure justice for all those she believes are wrongfully imprisoned.

Highlighting the conditions faced by Imran Khan in jail, Aleema accused the authorities of isolating him and cutting off all access to information. “He has been placed in solitary confinement and denied newspapers and television,” she alleged, accusing the jail superintendent of misrepresenting the facts. “The superintendent is lying — my brother never lies,” she asserted.

Aleema further alleged that Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, was also being targeted as part of a pressure campaign aimed at mentally breaking the PTI founder. She specifically accused Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of orchestrating the moves against Khan. “Maryam Nawaz has deployed this superintendent to inflict injustice on the PTI founder,” she claimed.

Sharing a message from her brother, Aleema said Imran Khan was willing to engage in political dialogue, not for personal gain, but for the country’s betterment. “He has said clearly: no personal deals, only talks for the nation’s sake,” she stated. “The PTI founder has issued a strong call — end personal rivalries and start a nationwide movement,” she added, urging party members to speak up about Khan’s situation and the injustices being committed.

Aleema also made an emotional appeal to the public. “We are all victims of inflation. The people must rise up themselves. The time has come to stand against this oppressive system,” she said, calling for a public response to what she described as a climate of political victimization.

Imran Khan has remained incarcerated since August 2023 after being implicated in a series of cases ranging from corruption to terrorism, following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.

Aleema’s remarks came a day after she visited her brother in jail. She relayed his message, saying, “My human rights are being violated. I’m denied access to TV and newspapers.” She added that Imran urged lawmakers to reflect on their political paths and the framework for any future negotiations. “Just listen to the PTI founder’s cases sincerely — everything will become clear,” she quoted him as saying.

In a separate development, Aleema Khan herself is now facing scrutiny from law enforcement. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Lahore Zone, has summoned her in connection with an inquiry into alleged anti-state activities conducted via social media.

According to sources, Aleema has been directed to appear before investigators on July 17 at 11:30 AM at the NCCIA office in Lahore’s Gulberg-II. The summons, issued under Inquiry No. 2531/25 dated May 27, 2025, states that the purpose of her appearance is to record a statement in her defense.

Authorities allege that Aleema used digital platforms to engage in activities deemed harmful to the state. The official notice warns that failure to comply with the summons will be interpreted as an unwillingness to present a defense, which could result in legal action under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The NCCIA, operating under the Ministry of Interior, has indicated that proceedings will advance if she fails to appear.
