ISLAMABAD; The Election Commission (EC) has disqualified Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti after declaring his educational certificates to be fake. In a significant decision, the EC accepted two petitions that sought Dasti’s disqualification from Parliament.
This ruling came after the EC approved a reference forwarded by the Speaker of the National Assembly, calling for action against Dasti under charges related to misrepresentation of his educational qualifications.
It is noteworthy that the Election Commission had earlier concluded hearings on these petitions in May. The cases involved challenges to Dasti’s declared assets as well as the authenticity of his academic credentials. After reserving its judgment, the Commission has now delivered its verdict, finding the lawmaker guilty of submitting fake educational documents.
The decision effectively strips Jamshed Dasti of his seat in the National Assembly, dealing a blow to his political career. This move also underscores the Election Commission’s stance on upholding transparency and integrity within Pakistan’s electoral and parliamentary processes.
With this ruling, the EC has sent a clear message about the consequences of misrepresenting personal records in election submissions, reaffirming its commitment to fair conduct and accountability for all public office holders.
