Islamabad; The Supreme Court has delivered its verdict on the pension case of former PTCL employees, ruling that they are entitled to pensions.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi along with Justice Amin ud Din Khan, decided in favor of over 200 appeals filed by pensioners, while Justice Ayesha Malik issued a dissenting note.
The court held that PTCL’s financial difficulties do not exempt it from paying pensions. It directed PTCL to prepare a payment schedule within 90 days and adjust pensions according to the federal government’s policy.
However, the judgment clarified that employees who opted for the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) are not eligible for pensions.
The court further instructed that the entire payment process be transparent, fair, and effective to finally address the long-standing grievances of the pensioners.
