Islamabad (Monitoring Desk) Elon Musk has announced the creation of a new political party, the “America Party,” following his sharp break with President Donald Trump over the president’s sweeping tax and spending cuts, which Musk called a “disgusting abomination.”
Once a close Trump ally—leading the Department of Government Efficiency and spending at least $250 million backing Trump in the 2024 election—Musk turned against the president over legislation signed Friday. As the bill advanced through Congress, Musk threatened to start a party if it passed, warning it would balloon the federal deficit.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted Saturday on X. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Though new parties often struggle against Republicans and Democrats, Musk’s immense wealth could reshape the 2026 midterms if he pours money into congressional races. However, this new feud could endanger Musk’s businesses, which rely on billions in government contracts.
It’s unclear if Musk has formally filed paperwork for the America Party. By Sunday morning, the Federal Election Commission listed multiple new entities using names like “America Party,” “DOGE,” or “X,” with Musk’s name attached—but none appeared legitimate, showing fake emails like “wentsnowboarding@yahoo.com.”
Meanwhile, Musk spent Sunday on X soliciting ideas for the party and signaled plans to target lawmakers who backed Trump’s bill, threatening to unseat them in 2026.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Musk’s former DOGE rival, told CNN that while DOGE’s ideas were popular, “Elon was not,” adding boards would likely push Musk to focus on business over politics.
This marks a dramatic shift from May, when Musk said he would spend “a lot less” on politics.
