
Lahore: Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan has suspended 26 opposition lawmakers for 15 sessions due to their extremely disruptive behavior.
A fine of Rs. 203,550 each has also been imposed on 10 members for damaging government property.
During yesterday’s budget session, while Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was present on the Punjab Assembly floor, opposition members chanted slogans, damaged chairs, raised placards, and even threw material at treasury members.
Speaking to the media at the Punjab Assembly’s media hall, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan said he had no choice but to take serious disciplinary action against the offenders after severe violations of the rules.
He added that the sanctity and order of the house must be upheld at all costs and it is his right to take such action against the violators.
The Speaker also said he will refer the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan to consider deseating the suspended members.
