Tehran: Iran holds massive funeral procession for 60 war martyrs in Tehran
In a powerful display of national mourning and defiance, Iran held a massive funeral procession in Tehran on Saturday for 60 individuals, including nuclear scientists, top military commanders, and civilians martyred during a 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
The ceremony drew thousands of grief-stricken mourners chanting “Death to Israel” and “Death to America,” as flag-draped coffins passed through the capital.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Bagha described the martyrs as “mythical heroes” whose sacrifice will inspire future generations. The ceremony, coinciding with the Islamic month of Muharram, echoed the historic spirit of resistance embodied in the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at Karbala. Iran claims over 600 lives, mostly civilians, were lost in what it condemns as unprovoked acts of aggression by Israel and the United States.
