PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, emphasized national unity, legal empowerment, and democratic values during an address to the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, calling the institution his “identity and home.”

Speaking at a special gathering, the minister presented a check of one crore rupees to the Bar Association on behalf of the federal government. The check was formally handed over to Bar President Ameen-ur-Rehman Advocate in the presence of General Secretary Ashfaq Dawoodzai, cabinet members, and a large group of lawyers.

Engineer Amir Muqam conveyed greetings from Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and praised the vital role lawyers play in upholding democracy, ensuring rule of law, and delivering justice. He lauded the judicial heritage of the Peshawar High Court, calling it a “highway of justice.”

Reiterating the commitment of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to supporting the legal community, the minister welcomed the 26th Constitutional Amendment as a constructive move and reaffirmed the government’s priority to preserve the country’s integrity.

He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership for a firm and timely response to Indian aggression and for enhancing the respect of the Pakistani passport globally. Referring to recent tensions along the Line of Control, he recalled holding a rally in Neelum Valley to demonstrate national resilience in the face of threats.

The minister described the crises in Palestine and Kashmir as humanitarian issues, condemned Israeli aggression, and welcomed signs of a potential ceasefire in Iran. He praised the solidarity between the Pakistan Army and the people of Azad Kashmir.

Discussing the government’s economic policies, Engineer Muqam pointed to signs of recovery, including reduced inflation, a stabilized currency, and lower interest rates. He acknowledged the challenges tied to the IMF agreement but said efforts continue to provide relief to the public.

On the post-FATA merger challenges, the minister stressed the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by the region’s residents. He noted the formation of a high-level committee to restore the Jirga system, with input from senior legal experts.

Clarifying his political stance, Engineer Muqam asserted that he represents the people rather than any single party. He urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to respond more effectively to public concerns and criticized its current performance. He also revealed surviving seven suicide attacks, reaffirming his commitment to truth and resilience.

In closing, the minister assured the legal community of his unwavering support and reiterated his office’s open-door policy. He called upon lawyers, the public, and national institutions to join hands for the development and stability of Pakistan.
