ISLAMABAD (MNN); US Vice President JD Vance has said “Bad News!” as he confirmed that no agreement was reached with Iran after 21 hours of intensive negotiations under the Pakistan-mediated Islamabad Talks.
The direct talks between the US and Iranian delegations continued into a second day on Sunday, with discussions reportedly lasting more than 15 hours and still ongoing in parallel sessions. The negotiations began on Saturday afternoon and included multiple rounds of direct engagement and expert-level exchanges.
A White House official, quoted by US media, said the talks remained active and highly detailed, with both sides continuing to exchange proposals throughout the process.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei described the discussions as “long and intensive,” saying that multiple messages and written texts were exchanged between the two sides. He said that over the past 24 hours, discussions covered key issues including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, war reparations, and broader regional conflicts.
Baqaei stressed that progress depends on the “seriousness and good faith” of the other side, urging respect for Iran’s legitimate rights and an end to excessive demands. He also thanked Pakistan for hosting and facilitating the negotiations.
According to Iranian statements, expert-level committees covering economic, military, legal, and nuclear issues have been actively engaged, with written proposals exchanged after each session at the Serena Hotel amid a fragile ceasefire environment.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed that Iran’s delegation remains committed to protecting national interests and will continue negotiations firmly while standing with its people regardless of the outcome.
Key sticking points reportedly include Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, frozen assets, and regional security issues.
