JEDDAH (MNN); Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a trilateral meeting in Jeddah on Monday with King Abdullah II and Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as regional tensions escalated following the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the latest developments and assessed their potential impact on regional and global stability, including threats to international maritime navigation, energy supply security, and the wider global economy.
They emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to contain the situation and strengthen regional security. The leaders warned that continued Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, including strikes on critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, represent a serious escalation.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, discussions also covered the broader implications of the conflict, including risks to freedom of navigation, energy security, and global economic stability, while stressing joint action to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions linked to the conflict that began on February 28. Several Arab and Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Qatar, have reported repeated Iranian attacks despite maintaining they are not party to the conflict.
Separately, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan participated via video link in a joint ministerial meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council, Russia, and Jordan to discuss the fallout of the ongoing crisis.
