ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital in Rawalpindi has allocated 10 rooms for jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, who is being shifted from Adiala Jail for specialised eye treatment, according to a report by Muhammad Saleh Zaafir in The News.
General Rehmat Khan, President of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, confirmed that the rooms, originally built for juvenile patients in the hospital’s Administration Block, have been reserved for this purpose. He stated that special arrangements have been made to allow the patient to be transported directly from his room to the operation theatre through a dedicated channel.
The hospital’s Vitreo-retina Department has been alerted to handle the case. The department provides advanced care for complex retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular disorders, retinal detachment, retinal vascular diseases, and posterior segment trauma.
Prof Dr Nadeem Qureshi, Chief Consultant and Head of the Vitreo-retina Department, will lead a board of 10 specialist doctors assigned to examine and treat the former prime minister. Hospital officials regard him as one of Asia’s leading experts in retinal complications.
General Rehmat Khan added that Brigadier Khalid Yazdani, head of the Administrative Unit, has been directed to ensure comprehensive arrangements, including security measures.
Sources said Imran Khan will remain in the hospital for as long as required for treatment. During his stay, the road leading to the Administration Block will be sealed, and access to the designated area will be restricted.
The hospital is located about a 15-minute drive from Adiala Jail. Officials are currently awaiting formal directives from the government regarding the transfer.
