ISLAMABAD (MNN); Former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been admitted to a military hospital after suffering injuries in a fall at his residence, informed sources said.
According to family sources, Gen (R) Bajwa slipped in the bathroom of his house around 4:30am on Tuesday, resulting in a head injury. He was immediately shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where he is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Initial reports suggest that he sustained multiple injuries; however, he is said to be in stable condition. The exact circumstances surrounding the fall have not been fully disclosed, and the severity of his injuries remains unclear.
Gen (R) Bajwa, 65, served as Pakistan’s 10th Chief of Army Staff from November 29, 2016, to November 29, 2022. His tenure was extended in 2019. Since his retirement in late 2022, he has largely remained out of the public spotlight.
Before becoming army chief, he served as Inspector General of Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters (GHQ). He also held important positions in 10 Corps as a General Staff Officer (GSO). Additionally, he commanded a United Nations brigade mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and served as Commandant of the Infantry School in Quetta.
Gen (R) Bajwa belongs to the Baloch Regiment of the infantry, a regiment that has produced three army chiefs: Gen Yahya Khan, Gen Mirza Aslam Beg, and Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
