PESHAWAR; The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is set to hold a peace jirga in the provincial assembly on Wednesday to review the province’s law and order situation and ongoing security challenges.
According to official sources, all security arrangements have been completed. Seating for around 400 participants has been arranged, and special entry passes have been issued to ensure security.
The jirga will see participation from all major political parties, while former chief ministers of the province have also been invited.
A total of 40 speakers are expected to address the gathering. The jirga’s joint declaration will be presented to the federal government and all security institutions and later shared with the Apex Committee for further deliberation.
Entry of unrelated persons to the assembly premises will remain restricted.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has confirmed his participation in the peace jirga, terming it an honour to sit alongside the provincial government and political leaders for the cause of peace.
Speaking at the Governor House in Peshawar during a meeting with a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary delegation, he reiterated his commitment to working with all political forces for the province’s stability and prosperity.
The PTI delegation included KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, MNAs Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar, Mehboob Shah, Atif Khan, Dr Amjad, Saleem ur Rehman, and others.
Governor Kundi said the current situation demands unity and collective efforts to ensure peace and progress in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressing that cooperation among all stakeholders is crucial for lasting stability.
