MUMBAI (MNN); Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai, marking the end of an era in South Asian music.
Renowned for her versatility and energetic performances in countless Bollywood films, her career spanned nearly seven decades, leaving a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute, saying her extraordinary musical journey enriched cultural heritage and touched millions across the globe. He praised her timeless voice, from soulful melodies to vibrant compositions.
She had been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai due to a chest infection and exhaustion, according to her family.
Asha Bhosle was the younger sister of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar and built a legendary career of her own.
During her illustrious journey, she received numerous honours, including two Grammy nominations and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest recognition in cinema.
