LAKKI MARWAT (MNN); At least nine people, including four police personnel, were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Serai Naurang town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, police officials confirmed.
According to district police spokesperson Qudratullah Khan, the explosion occurred on the busy Bannu–DI Khan Road near a fruit and vegetable market. Initial reports suggest that the attack specifically targeted a police patrol from the Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station.
Among the injured police officials are Head Constable Waheedullah and Constables Syed Anwar, Hadiullah, and Ikramullah. The police vehicle they were patrolling in also sustained damage in the blast.
Police said the attackers had planted an IED on a motorcycle, which detonated as the police van passed through the area. In total, nine individuals were injured, including civilians identified as 16-year-old Fidaullah, eight-year-old Zahidullah, 13-year-old Yasir, 55-year-old Suleman, and Mujeeb.
Local residents reported that nearby shops and parked vehicles were also damaged, while a power transmission line in the densely populated locality was affected by the explosion.
Bannu Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan visited the injured at the hospital and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care. He condemned the attack, stating that such acts of terrorism would not weaken the resolve of the police, adding that the force remains fully committed to countering threats and maintaining peace.
The incident comes roughly two weeks after a deadly attack in Lakki Marwat’s Bettani subdivision, where seven police personnel, including an officer, were martyred in an IED blast targeting a patrol from the Shadikhel police station.
