KARACHI (MNN); A Pakistani bulk carrier, Multan, has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz despite restrictions imposed following Iran’s announcement of the channel’s closure.
The vessel, sailing under the Pakistani flag, had departed from Saudi Arabia on March 14 and was en route to Karachi. It had been awaiting clearance from Iranian authorities to pass through the strategic sea route.
According to reports, despite the complete closure of the strait, Iranian authorities granted special permission to the vessel, allowing it safe passage. It is currently still within the Persian Gulf after crossing the channel.
Notably, Multan is the only vessel reported to have been allowed transit through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 12 hours.
