ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Romania in Islamabad hosted a high-level meeting with Pakistan’s Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Muhammad Awn Chaudhry, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of labour mobility.
The constructive exchange focused on promoting skilled and orderly temporary labour migration based on transparency, mutual benefit, and full respect for national legislation. Romanian officials underscored their country’s openness to qualified professionals who meet specific labour market demands and who contribute responsibly and legally to the economy.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that visa issuance remains a regulated process, conducted strictly in accordance with national laws and established procedures. Both sides acknowledged the importance of maintaining well-regulated and predictable migration frameworks aligned with the temporary nature of labour mobility schemes.
Romanian representatives clarified that the country is not a destination for permanent migration. Instead, cooperation in this area is aimed at facilitating temporary, skills-based mobility, after which workers are expected to return home with enhanced expertise and professional experience.
The Romanian side noted that the knowledge, skills, and financial savings gained abroad can significantly contribute to Pakistan’s sustainable development, making the arrangement mutually beneficial for both nations.
Both sides expressed readiness to enhance coordination through improved information exchange, strengthened pre-departure preparation, safeguards against irregular migration, and firm action against abuses by certain manpower agencies.
Officials agreed that sustained dialogue and cooperation rooted in trust and partnership would help ensure that labour mobility between Romania and Pakistan remains safe, legal, and beneficial for both countries.
Further discussions are expected as the two sides continue to explore effective and responsible mechanisms for collaboration
