LAHORE (MNN); Senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) currently incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail have appealed for the suspension of all protest activities during the holy month of Ramazan, emphasizing the need to respect its sanctity.
In a joint letter reportedly shared with the media, prominent imprisoned PTI figures — including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed — urged party workers and supporters to temporarily halt protest demonstrations during the sacred month.
The letter underscored the spiritual importance of Ramazan and called for unity, patience, and restraint during this period.
The detained leaders also strongly criticized recent remarks made by President Asif Ali Zardari regarding PTI founder Imran Khan. They stated that Khan is serving his sentence with dignity despite difficult circumstances and expressed concern over what they described as attempts to politicize his health condition.
They demanded that the government avoid using Khan’s medical condition for political purposes and ensure that decisions regarding his treatment are made in consultation with his sisters and personal physicians.
Additionally, the jailed leaders advised the party to shift its focus toward parliamentary engagement and strengthening internal organisational structures. They directed party officials at all levels to mobilize and reorganize the grassroots network in preparation for upcoming local government elections across the country.
