ISLAMABAD: Trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan continues to strengthen, with new developments in air cargo transportation aimed at facilitating faster and more reliable exports between the two countries.
Over the past nine years, bilateral relations have grown steadily, supported by enhanced mutual trust and strategic engagement at the leadership level. Between 2017 and 2025, trade turnover increased by 12.2 times, reaching USD 445.9 million by the end of 2025, reflecting the deepening economic partnership.
In 2025, exports from Uzbekistan to Pakistan were largely dominated by agricultural products such as dried legumes, nuts, and peanuts, accounting for nearly 80 percent of total exports. Industrial goods, including yarn and non-food raw materials, also recorded positive growth. Meanwhile, imports mainly consisted of food items and chemical industry products, particularly pharmaceuticals and detergents.
During the recent state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Pakistan on February 5–6, both sides agreed on an ambitious target to increase bilateral trade volume to USD 2 billion in the near future. The visit also resulted in a portfolio of trade and investment agreements worth USD 3.5 billion, covering projects in industrial cooperation, logistics, agriculture, and energy sectors.
To further strengthen trade, tourism, and economic connectivity, Uzbekistan Airways currently operates regular flights four times a week connecting Tashkent with Islamabad and Lahore. Additionally, private carrier Centrum Air has announced the launch of direct Lahore flights starting in April this year.
The expansion of direct air routes is expected to significantly enhance cargo transportation and logistics cooperation. Exporters will benefit from faster and more secure delivery options, while Pakistani importers can transport consignments of up to two tons through Uzbekistan Airways cargo services.
Officials believe improved air freight connectivity will help Uzbek products reach Pakistan’s large consumer market of over 250 million people more efficiently, further accelerating bilateral trade growth.
