ISLAMABAD (MNN); The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced that new net metering regulations will not affect current solar consumers, offering relief to existing users.
According to a notification, amendments to the Solar and Prosumer Policy will come into effect from February 9, 2026, and will apply only to new applicants. NEPRA confirmed that the current net metering framework for existing solar users will remain unchanged under the revised policy.
The authority has issued a draft amendment to the Solar Policy 2026 and invited feedback from stakeholders within 30 days. Public consultation has also been initiated on proposed changes to the Prosumer Regulations 2026, following directives after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the matter.
NEPRA stated that citizens can submit suggestions or objections to the Registrar at NEPRA Tower or via official channels within the stipulated period. The draft amendments have been uploaded on the “News” section of NEPRA’s official website.
The regulator emphasized that improving the power sector through transparency and stakeholder participation remains its top priority, and all feedback will be carefully reviewed before finalizing the regulations.
