ISLAMABAD (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced financial compensation for the victims of last week’s suicide bombing at an imambargah in Islamabad.
The announcement came during the premier’s visit to the attack site. On February 6, a suicide bomber targeted the Friday congregation at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra on the outskirts of the capital, killing at least 38 worshippers and injuring more than 150 others.
PM Shehbaz declared Rs10 million for Oun Abbas, who bravely attempted to stop the attacker. Families of each martyr will receive Rs5 million, while those critically injured and currently under treatment will be given Rs3 million. Individuals with minor injuries who have been discharged will receive Rs1 million.
Addressing the gathering, the prime minister said the perpetrators had “no religion” and had crossed all bounds of brutality. He described the attack as one of the most barbaric acts and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, including elders and children.
Speaking to the bereaved families, he said the entire nation shared their grief. He praised religious leaders for unanimously condemning the attack and thwarting attempts to create sectarian divisions.
The prime minister also lauded the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and police for their ongoing efforts against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Later, he visited the residence of Oun Abbas to offer his condolences.
