BEIJING: Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi, arrived at the headquarters of China’s Ministry of Public Security, where he was warmly welcomed by Chinese Minister of Public Security Wang Zhaohong and his delegation. Minister Naqvi held an extensive three-and-a-half-hour meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Zhaohong. The discussions focused on Pakistan-China bilateral relations, joint counterterrorism measures, police training exchange programs, and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.Both sides agreed to hold meetings of the joint working group every three months, while ministerial-level meetings will be conducted annually. The two interior ministers emphasized the need to improve coordination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Chinese Minister Wang expressed satisfaction with the measures taken to protect Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan and thanked Minister Naqvi and his team. He also praised Pakistan’s efforts in counterterrorism, acknowledging the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.Both leaders agreed on making the joint rapid response system against terrorism and crime more effective and expanding the scope of police training exchange programs. The discussions also included Islamabad-Beijing sister city initiatives.
Minister Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences and information between the police and security agencies of both countries through training. He briefed the Chinese side on the security measures taken for Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan, including the establishment of a special protection unit in Islamabad.
Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Chinese cooperation in combating cybercrime and expressed interest in leveraging Chinese expertise to enhance the capacity of Pakistan’s National Cybercrime Investigation Agency. He also noted the potential benefits of China’s AI-based technology in addressing counterterrorism and security challenges.
Minister Naqvi reaffirmed that Pakistan-China relations are a lasting strategic partnership, resilient against any challenges, and expressed a desire to further expand sustainable cooperation for addressing security challenges and protecting shared interests.Naqvi extended an invitation to Minister Wang to visit Pakistan and conveyed well wishes on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to the Chinese President and Premier.
In response, Minister Wang invited Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Cooperation Forum in China this September and expressed readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation at all levels. A luncheon was hosted in honor of Minister Naqvi and his delegation, attended by China’s Vice Minister of Public Security Su Detong, Vice Minister Yu Xiuho, Beijing Deputy Mayor, Director General of Beijing Public Security Bureau Kan Yunbiao, DG of Ministry of Public Security General Office Gu Kan, DG Counterterrorism Gao Qiu, and DG International Cooperation Wang Yong.
From the Pakistani side, the delegation included Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Agha, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, DG National Police Academy Muhammad Idrees, DG National Cybercrime Investigation Agency Syed Khurram Ali, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi.
