LAKKI MARWAT/BANNU (MNN); At least three traffic police personnel were martyred in separate attacks by suspected terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts on Sunday.
In Lakki Marwat, the three traffic policemen were on duty near the Dil Begu Khel area when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire, killing them on the spot. Among the martyred was ticketing officer in-charge Jalal Khan, along with Azizullah and Abdullah. Their bodies were moved to Naurang Hospital, and police launched a search operation at the site of the attack.
Funeral prayers for the martyred officers were offered later at Lakki Marwat Police Lines with official honours, attended by police officials, district administration officers, family members, and residents.
KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attacks, calling the incident “unfortunate.” He stated that the sacrifices of the martyred policemen would not go in vain, praising their role on the front lines of the fight against terrorism. Afridi affirmed that the provincial government stands with the police and vowed that the attackers would be brought to justice.
Separately, in Bannu district, a police constable, Rashid Khan, was shot and martyred by armed assailants on a motorcycle while leaving his home for duty in the Kashfi Khel area. Police secured the site, collected evidence, and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers, spokesperson Asif Hasan said.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep grief over the incidents, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the martyred officers and emphasizing the pride in the services of police and security forces in maintaining law and order.
