ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned Israel’s decision to recognise the so-called Somaliland region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, calling it a deliberate attempt to undermine Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Israel on Friday announced formal recognition of Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign state” and signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan firmly rejects any move that threatens Somalia’s territorial integrity and denounced Israel’s announcement as illegal and provocative.
The FO said such actions amounted to a clear violation of international law and posed a serious threat not only to peace and stability in Somalia but also to the wider region.
Pakistan urged the international community to reject any such measures and to take steps to prevent and deter Israel from undermining ongoing efforts aimed at peace and stability in the region.
The statement also reiterated Pakistan’s categorical opposition to any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land under any circumstances. Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
