ISLAMABAD (MNN); President of Pakistan has approved the de-notification of Islamabad High Court judge Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri on the advice of the prime minister, following a ruling by the Islamabad High Court declaring his appointment unlawful.
According to official sources, the president endorsed the de-notification after the Islamabad High Court held that Justice Jahangiri did not meet the eligibility criteria at the time of his appointment, as he was not qualified to hold a valid LLB degree.
In its verdict, the Islamabad High Court directed that Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri vacate his office, ruling that his appointment as a judge was illegal due to the lack of a valid law degree at the time of induction.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Bar Association has announced a strike for tomorrow in protest against what it termed an unconstitutional and unlawful decision.
In a strike notice, the bar association said it firmly believes in the rule of law and the dignity of the judiciary, adding that lawyers always stand against actions that violate the Constitution and the law.
The Islamabad Bar Association further stated that it condemns illegal and unconstitutional decisions and stressed that no case should be decided without fulfilling all legal requirements.
The association announced that lawyers will observe a complete strike and boycott court proceedings in Islamabad in protest against the decision.
