Web Desk (MNN); Pakistan’s security forces and police thwarted major terrorist attempts in separate incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the martyrdom of a policeman, a soldier and a civilian, while several terrorists were neutralised.
In Balochistan’s Panjgur district, a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) constable and a civilian were martyred after terrorists attempted to loot a private bank, police officials said. The attack triggered a fierce gun battle when police rushed to the scene following reports of a bank raid.
Police sources said CTD constable Dara Khan embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire, while another civilian lost his life. Two policemen sustained injuries, whereas the attackers managed to flee after stealing around Rs1 million, according to AFP.
Senior Superintendent of Police Panjgur Dost Muhammad Bugti said the suspects arrived in four vehicles and attempted to target multiple banks. He added that timely police action foiled raids on two banks, warning that all five banks in the city could have been looted had police not responded promptly.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti praised the police and CTD for their swift response, lauding their bravery and professionalism. He paid tribute to martyred constable Dara Khan, saying the sacrifices of such brave sons would never be forgotten and reaffirmed that terrorists and criminals had no place in the province.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, a Pakistan Army soldier was martyred during an intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the ISPR, security forces conducted the operation on reports of terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Khawarij, a term used for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). After intense fire exchange, seven terrorists were killed.
Naik Yasir Khan, 34, a resident of Mardan, embraced martyrdom while fighting gallantly. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area. A sanitisation operation is ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants.
Earlier, ISPR said 13 terrorists were killed in two separate intelligence-based operations in Mohmand and Bannu districts. Last month, 22 terrorists were eliminated in Bannu, while three militants were killed following an attack on the Frontier Corps headquarters in Nokkundi.
Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist violence since the TTP ended its ceasefire in November 2022. The Global Terrorism Index 2025 recently ranked Pakistan second, reporting a 45 percent increase in terrorism-related deaths over the past year.
