STOCKHOLM (MNN); On Wednesday, the 2025 Nobel Prizes in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, as well as the 2025 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, were presented during a ceremony in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics went to Clarke, Devoret, and Martinis for their work revealing macroscopic quantum tunneling and the quantization of energy in electronic circuits. The Chemistry Prize was given to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi “for the development of metal-organic frameworks.”
Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their research on peripheral immune tolerance.
Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai was selected for the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the Economic Sciences prize was awarded to Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion, and Peter Howitt.
Each 2025 Nobel Prize carries a monetary award of 11 million Swedish kronor (equivalent to 1.21 million U.S. dollars).
Over 1,000 attendees including members of the Swedish royal family and various political leaders were present at the event.
The ceremony is traditionally held on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish chemist and inventor who established the prizes. (1 Swedish krona = 0.11 U.S. dollar)
