LAHORE (MNN); Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed authorities to introduce extensive digital surveillance outside all schools and educational institutions across the province to strengthen security and ensure close monitoring of sensitive areas.
She directed the Punjab Police and the School Education Department to jointly conduct mock drills in schools. All educational institutions will now be required to have trained security guards, strict entry checks and functional CCTV systems.
The chief minister also approved the registration of drivers and staff working on inter-provincial buses to enhance travel safety, calling for close coordination between law enforcement agencies and the Motorway Police.
Maryam Nawaz further ordered upgraded surveillance in public parks and tasked the Safe City Authority with reviewing and improving the performance of CCTV cameras across Punjab. She stressed that cities like Lahore and Rawalpindi must ensure complete CCTV coverage.
As part of improving crime detection, she instructed that CCTV systems installed in private homes and commercial markets should be linked with the Safe City network. She also directed security agencies to continue combing operations against criminal groups without any pause.
Addressing the issue of illegal Afghan nationals, the chief minister called for more effective measures and directed deputy commissioners and district police officers to stay in contact with local elders. Punjab will also develop a computerized database of residents from other provinces to distinguish them from undocumented migrants.
She directed that no major public place in the province should remain without digital monitoring, expressing her resolve to make Punjab the safest region in the country. She urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to helpline 15.
Maryam Nawaz expressed satisfaction over the current law-and-order situation and praised the police and security agencies for their performance, encouraging them to continue working with dedication.
