LAHORE (MNN); According to the Election Commission, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf did not field any candidate nor submit nomination papers for the vacant Senate seat from Lahore.
Following the scrutiny of nomination papers, two other candidates — Ahsan Afzal and Abdul Jabbar — withdrew their papers, clearing the way for PML-N’s Abid Sher Ali to be declared elected unopposed. The seat had fallen vacant after Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s resignation. Abid Sher Ali had filed his papers with Rana Arshad and Raheela Khadim Hussain as his proposers, while Rana Shehryar and Tahir Jamil were among his seconders.
With all other candidates stepping back, Abid Sher Ali has now been officially declared elected as a member of the Senate without contest.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Abid Sher Ali, saying that by the grace of Allah, the PML-N continues to secure success on every front due to its commitment to public service. He noted that Abid Sher Ali is an active leader of the party who earned distinction through dedicated service in previous tenures.
The prime minister expressed hope that as senator, Abid Sher Ali will continue to play a strong role for national development and public welfare under the guidance of party leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
With his unopposed election, the Senate has gained further strength through the addition of a new representative.
