LAKKI MARWAT (MNN); A police officer was martyred and five others sustained injuries on Monday when a suicide bomber targeted a police mobile in the Tajori area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district.
According to DPO Lakki Marwat’s spokesperson Asif Hassan, the attack was carried out on a Tajori police patrol vehicle. The martyred official was identified as Head Constable Alauddin, while the bomber’s accomplice managed to escape. A search operation was launched immediately.
Those injured include ASI Haq Nawaz, Constable Yar Muhammad, Elite Force Constables Kamal Ahmad and Naeemullah, and Duty Foot Constable Nasrullah.
A police statement later revealed that security forces were alerted after receiving intelligence regarding a suspicious motorcyclist reportedly heading towards Bakhmal Ahmadzai, with credible information suggesting that the attacker intended to target a public gathering.
Police personnel set up checkpoints at Katta Khel, where two suspicious motorcyclists were intercepted. During the chase that followed, one of the riders opened fire on police and subsequently detonated himself when the police retaliated. The area was cordoned off, and evidence was being gathered.
DPO Nazir Khan praised the courage of the force, stating that the timely response prevented a large-scale tragedy and saved many innocent lives. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the incident, assuring that the sacrifices of police personnel would be honoured and that cowardly attacks would not weaken the resolve of law enforcement agencies.
In a separate incident in Bannu region, Constable Muhammad Tariq was martyred when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him near Sarangi Adda while he was on his way to duty.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the end of the TTP ceasefire in 2022. Just last week, three policemen lost their lives during an assault on a checkpost in Hangu.
