Web Desk (MNN); Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday sharply criticised the sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan over their interview with Indian media, questioning their motives and accusing them of defaming Pakistan at an international platform.
He recalled that Imran’s sisters — Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen — had been protesting outside Adiala Jail last week after being denied a meeting with their brother, during which PTI alleges they were mishandled and detained by police. Tarar, however, claimed that the three women were also present during the May 9 events at the Lahore Corps Commander’s House, insisting there was camera evidence of their involvement.
According to the minister, PTI was unable to accept the government’s diplomatic achievements following Marka-i-Haq, and was disturbed by the improvement in economic stability.
He strongly objected to the sisters’ decision to appear on Indian and Afghan channels, saying they failed to condemn Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, atrocities against Muslims in India or the situation in occupied Kashmir. Tarar stressed that in Noreen Khan’s interview, she did not acknowledge the children, citizens and officers who were martyred, nor did she pay tribute to them.
Tarar alleged that Indian media offered space to the sisters only because “they know this family’s mindset aligns against Pakistan.” He added that Noreen also avoided criticising Hindutva policies or highlighting Kashmiri suffering.
Calling their actions shameful, Tarar said those who use foreign platforms to malign Pakistan should reflect on their behaviour instead of portraying themselves as victims.
Responding to concerns about Imran’s health, the minister stated that the former prime minister was in good condition, exercising regularly and enjoying what he described as luxurious facilities in custody. Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 in the £190 million corruption reference, while multiple cases related to the May 9 riots remain pending against him under anti-terror laws.
