Web Desk (MNN); Kaspersky, in collaboration with VDC Research, has revealed that ransomware attacks on the global manufacturing sector may have resulted in potential losses exceeding $18 billion during the first three quarters of 2025. This estimate accounts for the direct cost of idle workforces during downtime, while total operational and financial impacts are expected to be much higher.
The analysis covered regions including APAC, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, CIS, and LATAM, based on ransomware detection and prevention rates, the total number of manufacturing organizations, average downtime per attack, average employee numbers per organization, and average hourly wages.
Data from the Kaspersky Security Network shows that from January to September 2025, the Middle East (7%) and Latin America (6.5%) recorded the highest share of ransomware detections in manufacturing organizations.
