Web Desk (MNN); Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are under scrutiny for potential disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as the battle for the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship intensifies.
The announcement comes after Max Verstappen claimed victory at the race, with Norris finishing second and Piastri in fourth place. As a result, Norris leads the championship by 30 points.
The possible disqualification arises from a technical infringement concerning excessive wear on the plank of both McLaren cars. FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer confirmed that the rear skid blocks on both vehicles measured below the minimum 9mm thickness required under Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations.
According to the stewards, “The thickness of the plank assembly was below the permitted minimum.” Their official statement read: “The rear skids were re-measured in the presence of the Stewards and the three McLaren representatives, and the measurements confirmed that the skids did not comply with regulations.”
With the disqualification news, race winner Verstappen becomes the biggest beneficiary in the 2025 Drivers’ Championship. The Red Bull driver now equals Oscar Piastri with 366 points, while Norris continues to lead with 390 points, holding a 24-point advantage.
The 2025 title race will be decided over the next two weekends, with 58 points still up for grabs from two remaining Grand Prix races and one sprint.
