Web Desk (MNN); Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Moscow on Monday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting scheduled for November 17–18.
Dar was received at the airport by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, senior Russian Foreign Ministry officials, and representatives of the Pakistan Embassy. He is leading Pakistan’s delegation on the invitation of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The Foreign Office stated that the meeting will bring together the heads of government of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus, along with Iran’s vice president, and the foreign ministers of Pakistan and India.
Delegations from Mongolia, Bahrain, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait and Turkmenistan are also expected, in addition to leaders of regional organisations such as the CIS, EAEU, CSTO and DSA.
The FO added that Dar will outline Pakistan’s views on major regional and global issues and propose measures to enhance cooperation within the SCO framework.
As the second-highest decision-making body of the SCO, the CHG oversees collaboration in trade, economy, connectivity, finance, commerce and socio-economic development, and approves the organisation’s budget, joint statements and key decisions.
Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries on the sidelines of the event.
This year’s main SCO summit was earlier held in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1, while Pakistan is set to host the next summit, as announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in September.
