ISLAMABAD (MNN); Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has asserted that Pakistan would respond to any aggression from India in the same decisive manner it did during the brief but intense clash in May this year, Daily Jang reported on Sunday.

Speaking to the Urdu daily at a luncheon hosted in honour of Jordan’s King Abdullah II — who is on a two-day visit to Islamabad — the army chief said that divine help played a key role during Pakistan’s response to Indian action in May.

“Allah enabled us to hold our heads high during the war with India,” Field Marshal Munir remarked. “When a Muslim trusts Allah, even the dust thrown at the enemy becomes a missile.”

He added that he performs his responsibilities in accordance with God’s commands and said Pakistan’s victory against its adversary was achieved by Allah’s grace. “This army is the army of Allah, and our soldiers fight in His name,” he stated.

Tensions skyrocketed in early May 2025 after an attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Kashmir, triggered New Delhi’s “Operation Sindoor” on May 7. The Indian strikes inside Pakistan resulted in civilian casualties, with India blaming Pakistan without providing evidence.

Pakistan retaliated with “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos”, leading to intense artillery and drone exchanges between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. A ceasefire was eventually secured with the intervention of the United States and other international actors.

Last month, while addressing cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Field Marshal Munir cautioned India’s military leadership that “there is no space for war in a nuclearised environment”. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks resolution of core disputes in line with international principles but will not tolerate intimidation.

“We will neither be coerced nor subdued by your rhetoric,” he said. “Pakistan will respond with full force, beyond proportions, even to the smallest provocation.”
