ISLAMABAD (MNN); Jordan’s King Abdullah II will arrive in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Foreign Office (FO) announced on Friday. The king is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with both the prime minister and the president.

King Abdullah’s last visit to Pakistan took place during the tenure of former president Mamnoon Hussain, when the two countries signed memoranda of understanding on cooperation in civil protection, defence, and the housing sector.

According to the FO, the upcoming visit reflects the longstanding and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Jordan. The statement said the visit would strengthen the strategic direction of bilateral relations and elevate them to a broader partnership covering political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

During the visit, King Abdullah will meet Pakistan’s top leadership to discuss the full spectrum of Pakistan–Jordan relations. A special ceremony will also be held at the Presidency to confer Pakistan’s highest civilian award on the Jordanian monarch.

The FO said the visit would further consolidate relations and expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Late last month, King Abdullah appreciated the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir in Jordan. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II also attended the meeting.

The king praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Army and expressed a desire to deepen defence collaboration, while the army chief conveyed warm greetings from the Pakistani nation.
