Web Desk; Powerful explosion shook the vicinity of New Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday, leaving several people dead and dozens injured, according to Indian media reports.

Local television footage showed flames and thick smoke rising from multiple vehicles on a crowded street near a metro station in Old Delhi. The area, packed with commuters and vendors, was quickly cordoned off as emergency teams rushed to the scene.

NDTV reported that the explosion occurred inside a parked car near the Red Fort, sparking a fire that spread to three or four other vehicles. Firefighting teams and police personnel immediately launched rescue operations.

The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a 17th-century Mughal monument and one of India’s major tourist attractions, located in the heart of Delhi’s old city.

Following the explosion, authorities placed both New Delhi and Mumbai on high alert amid fears of further incidents.

Earlier in the day, Indian security agencies in Haryana claimed to have seized a large cache of explosives and bomb-making materials during a raid.

According to The Times of India, the recovered items included around 2,900 kilograms of IED components, 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate, detonators, wires, and other explosive substances. Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

Investigations are underway to determine whether the Delhi blast is linked to the material confiscated earlier in Haryana.
