WAZIRABAD; Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday announced a comprehensive compensation package for flood-affected families in Wazirabad, assuring that the provincial government stood firmly with the victims.

Addressing a public gathering, the chief minister said families whose houses had been completely destroyed in the floods would be provided Rs1 million in financial assistance, while those with partially damaged homes would receive Rs500,000. She further announced Rs500,000 compensation for those who lost cattle and Rs50,000 for every goat, sheep, or cow lost. Farmers whose agricultural land was submerged will be compensated with Rs20,000 per acre.

Maryam emphasised that her government was treating the victims with dignity and compassion. “I do not call them flood victims; they are my guests and the guests of Punjab,” she remarked, adding that her entire cabinet had been present in the field, working round the clock to assist the displaced families.

The chief minister credited the provincial administration, Rescue 1122, police, civil defence, and the armed forces for their joint efforts, saying timely preparations had prevented a far greater catastrophe.

Referring to her visit to relief camps in Bahawalpur’s Uch Sharif, she noted that Punjab had faced the worst floods in its history, compounded by the flow of water from India. “If people had not been evacuated in time, the losses could have been unimaginable,” she said.

According to officials, nearly 100 people have lost their lives in the floods, while vaccination campaigns and protection drives continue for livestock. In Sargodha alone, over 152,000 animals have been vaccinated, with only three deaths reported. Relief camps have also been established in the affected areas.

Maryam also reiterated her government’s commitment to long-term development, mentioning the launch of the Gujranwala Metro trackless bus system and the electric bus project. The address was frequently interrupted by chants of “Maryam Nawaz,” as the crowd expressed support for her announcements.
